What is a POP3 account?
Most e-mail clients use POP3 (Post Office Protocol), the standard
for Internet e-mail, which allows your PC to access e-mail from
a server. It provides a message store that holds incoming e-mail
until you log on and download it. All pending messages and attachments
are retrieved at the same time and then deleted from the server.
It's ideal for home and small business users who typically access
their e-mail from a single PC or small network.
What is SMTP?
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a protocol for sending e-mail messages
between servers. In addition, SMTP is generally used to send messages
from a mail client to a mail server. This is why you need to specify
both the POP and the SMTP server when you configure your e-mail
application.
Does my e-mail take up disk space?
Yes. When your account is set up we will allocate you a quota of
disk space. This is usually 2MB. When you collect your e-mail the
files are cleared from the account and transferred to your local
machine.
Please Note: If you have
changed your preferences in Outlook or another mail client to keep
a copy of your e-mail on the server, we suggest that you disable
this feature or regularly delete old e-mails. When the space in
your POP box is full it will not accept any more e-mails and they
will be returned to the sender.
What is e-mail forwarding?
If you have an e-mail address that you would like to continue using
to receive all of your e-mail, you can direct other e-mail addresses/accounts
to forward your mail to that specific address. This provides a convenient
way of simplifying the management of your e-mail accounts.
